Total MPs Calculation
Total MPs = Lok Sabha seats (543) + State/UT-allocated Rajya Sabha seats (233).
The 12 nominated Rajya Sabha members appointed by the President of India are excluded from state rows because they are not allocated on a state-wise constitutional basis.
MLA Constituencies
MLAs represent 4,123 elected Assembly constituencies across 28 States and 3 Union Territories (Delhi NCT, Jammu & Kashmir, and Puducherry). Puducherry's three nominated MLA positions are excluded.
Municipal Wards & Councillors
Councillor / Ward Posts (97,320) represent urban local-body wards recorded in the Local Government Directory (LGD). Normally, each ward elects one councillor in Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats.
Gram Panchayats & Traditional Councils
Gram Panchayats (2,55,304) include village-level PRI bodies such as Gram, Grama, Gaon, Village, and Halqa Panchayats. Traditional or tribal village councils (e.g. in Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Nagaland) are governed under special constitutional schedules and are listed as zero in standard PRI columns.
